In the recent years, the magnitude of sexual violence in Egypt increased significantly, especially following the 2011 popular uprising when mass rape and sexual assault occurred during several protests. Since then, organized efforts by civil society to combat the phenomenon encouraged women to be more outspoken about it, despite the insistence of a large sector in society to deny its existence. One of the most active associations in the field, is Cairo Foundation for Development & Law who recently republished a simplified paper entitled " How to report a harassment " so that every woman who is exposed to harassment can protect herself and her legal right to denounce this kind of abuse.
In addition to this brief and useful guide, Cairo Foundation launched an operation room and a hotline to monitor, document and report sexual harassment incidents during Eid Adha (The Sacrifice Celebrations. The below – attached “How to report a harassment” simplified guide is available in Arabic.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
