Transformative Political Identities for Gender Equality-LANA

05.10.2016 / Created by (EMWF)

LANA project aims to increase women’s participation in decision making within the private and public sphere.

LANA approach reflects a move from individual to collective action, where the project focused on building a base of men and women “Change Makers” where 350 change makers Tier 1 were recruited and provided with educational materials and skills in order to work in their communities. Also 800 Tier 2 change makers were recruited and trained by Tier 1 and more than 3000 indirect beneficiaries were targeted through the community campaigns conducted by the Change makers. The change maker model we piloted is a new innovative strategy for civic engagement and community mobilization, in order to change the perception and attitude toward women’s political participation and gender roles and equality.

The second phase of the project focused on building an alliance “APEX FORA” including Change Makers where this alliance developed an advocacy plan and campaign to increase the participation of women in political life andto improve the implementation of the CEDAW convention.

This practice was identified within the framework of the pilot action of mobilization of equality actors on local level in Lebanon 2015. This action is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacity of equality actors” of the project “Women for the future in the Mediterranean” funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the project “Developing Women Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
