The Drop-in and advice centre for women in distress is a shelter for women fleeing situations of spousal abuse.
Its objectives are: to receive morally or physically threatened women; provide them with a temporary residence; ensure them moral and health assistance; enable their access to the legal apparatus, information on their rights, and mechanisms of appeal; work on their rapid reinsertion in social and economic life. These two drop-in centres have been operative in Sousse and Tunis since 2003 and 2005, respectively.
This practice was identified in the framework of the research seminar on gender “Violence Against Women, Gender-Based Violence”, organised by RUSEMEG in Tunis on 8 and 9 October 2015, in the framework of Axis 1 “Strengthening the capacities of actors working for gender equality”, with the support of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.
