With the participation of OxfamNovib, this practice has carried out various training and awareness-raising activities addressed to several groups, such as students who were trained through advocacy campaigns. On the other hand, journalists, teachers and doctors were made aware on: violence against women, the health care system of circumcised girls and the discrimination against women in rural areas. The campaign of fighting violence against women "I want a solution" was launched as well as a website where women can register their problems and they are subsequently contacted. Moreover, meetings with leaders and government officials on the causes of violence against women were organized.
The aim is to make women be aware of their rights but also to create social awareness among legal organizations and the media in order to fight against these types of violence. With this practice, Al Midan aims to raise the pressure on policymakers to fully follow international conventions on women’ s rights that Egypt has ratified and to support marginalized women.
This practice has been identified in the framework of the CSO WINS project (Capacity-building in the Southern Mediterranean to Open policy dialogue and monitoring for Women IN Society), with the support of the European Union’s Neighbourhood Civil Society Facility.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
