Gender based violence (GBV) is still considered a taboo in Palestinian society. This topic needs to be in everyday conversations to break these taboos. Women’s rights, and their right to live in dignity needs to be accepted across generations.
JCW has been worked with testimonies and case studies focusing on GBV and it produced a documentary denouncing human rights abuses and promoting women´s rights by focusing on youth. This documentary served as an advocacy tool for raising awareness among local, national and international audiences. This work resulted in numerous meetings with political bodies and it has created major changes in the laws relating to violence against women. JCW has worked with the Ministry of Women Affairs and became a member of a vast network of women' s organizations working on GBV in Palestine.
Bringing the issue of GBV and having youth speak about this brought a different perspective to what victims of violence faced. The women were able to feel more support and solidarity from different groups.
This practice has been selected within the framework of the CSO WINS project "Capacity-building in the Southern Mediterranean to Open Policy Dialogue and Monitoring for Women IN Society" with the support of the European Union’s Neighborhood Civil Society Facility.
