In partnership with OXFAM, the women’ s development group and the development association ASSAD, CAWTAR launched an income-generating practice in the field of the environment and raising women’ s awareness of their rights. This practice was implemented in the village of Oued Sbayhia, 60 km from Tunis (Zaghouan Governorate), characterised by high rates of female poverty, illiteracy and unemployment (30% and 27%, respectively). As a result of the migration of men to towns, women began to exploit natural forest resources anarchically in order to ensure a complementary income for their families.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
