The current pandemic has triggered different governmental responses in each of the Euro-Mediterranean countries. Despite their differences, however, all these measures will entail a restructuring of the economic, social, cultural and political pillars sustaining the Euro-Mediterranean region. Civil society actors are also generating responses to counter the short- and long-term consequences of the virus, responses that in many cases consider and demand a gender perspective.

At the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation, we are monitoring information produced by relevant actors, partners or members in order to tackle the gender-based issues that have become more evident and acute due to the virus management, and to help us all develop an in-depth understanding of the pandemic and its consequences in the region with a gender perspective. Thus, the resources we have gathered include articles that focus on particular geographical contexts and sectors, manifests that aim to influence policy-makers, press releases and declarations, and information on how to possibly act when experiencing some sort of gender-based inequalities tied to confinement.

The content will be updated regularly, and we encourage you to drop us a line at euromedwomen@iemed.org if you think relevant information is missing.

To promote dialogue and encourage networking, we keep disseminating knowledge on gender equality during these COVID-19 times and support the visibility of actors’ initiatives aimed at empowering women and advocating for public policies sensitive to women’s rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Stay safe!
