Arab Women in Films is an online directory that promotes gender equality and freedom of expression in the film sector highlighting the profile of female film professionals from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.
The platform aims to tackle gender inequality as well as to combat gender-based stereotypes within the film industry through the promotion of non-stereotyped female representation. Moreover, Arab Women in Films directory supports, female professionals within the industry and aspires to make their work more visible both to the audience as well as to film-making producers.
As part of the project “Enhancing a gender responsive film sector in the South Mediterranean Region” the database serves as a tool for female professionals to connect, engage and come up with ideas to expand their works while approaching the media. The directory gathers biographies and contacts of Arab female film-making professionals in the region and it is open for registration to all female professionals in the region willing to directly connect with the network.
The directory is created by Fe-Male Feminist Collective and Dawaer Foundation whose vision is to have a society where youth and children are protected from violence and extremism.
