The Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) is a research and analysis tool that was introduced by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) Development Centre in 2007. It calculates the level of gender discrimination present in the social institutions of over 160 countries.
The SIGI is mainly used by researchers and policy makers, but its simple construction also makes it an interesting tool for the general public interested in women’s social and economic development.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
