The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is an autonomous body of the European Union, established to contribute to and strengthen the promotion of gender equality, including gender mainstreaming in all EU policies and the resulting national policies, and the fight against discrimination based on sex, as well as to raise EU citizens’ awareness of gender equality. It is based in Lithuania.
EIGE’s web offers a variety of tools that manage the knowledge produced such as:
Gender Statistics Database: knowledge centre that provides high quality data on gender statistics and information on various aspects of (in)equality between women and men.
Gender Mainstreaming platform: provides insights on the relevance of gender in a variety of policy areas to support the EU institutions and governmental bodies with the integration of a gender perspective in their work.
Gender Equality Glossary and Thesaurus: specialised terminology tool that aims to foster a common understanding of gender equality terms across the EU and promote gender-fair and inclusive language.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
