The National Machinery for Women' s Rights (NMWR) is the competent authority in Cyprus for the promotion of gender equality and women´s rights.
It was established in February 1994 by the Council of Ministers, is administratively placed under the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and is under the chairmanship of the Minister of Justice and Public Order.
The NMWR is a system of four bodies, i.e. the Council, the National Committee, the Interministerial Committee and the General Secretariat, in which governmental officers from all ministries, women´s organizations and other NGO´s participate.
The NMWR deals with all matters concerning women, focusing on the elimination of legal discrimination against women and the promotion of real equality between men and women.
