Lebanon
Because having more women in leading roles will contribute in creating a reformed and more democratic Lebanese society, the NGO, Women in Front (Nissa' a Ra' idat) aims to promote prominent women, highlight their expertise and encourage them to become key players in both public and private sectors.
Women in Front has been a main player in federating more than 150 women associations in Lebanon under the name “Women in Parliament” in order to raise awareness among various politicians and to lobby for the adoption of temporary measures that will help to increase the participation of women in the Lebanese Parliament. Their efforts led to increase the number of women candidates from 12 (in 2009 parliamentary elections) to 44 (2013 parliamentary elections that were postponed).
With the support of an elections expert team, the organization is currently implementing a project: Women in Politics that introduces the principle of the feminine quota in the new parliamentary election law that is being studied. This project includes a national television campaign, a documentary and various trainings addressed to political parties, journalists, lobby groups and potential women candidates independent or politically affiliated.
