Women against Violence (WOV) aims to substantively change the position of women in Palestinian society: to eliminate gender based violence in the community, to deepen popular understanding of the feminist ideology, and to raise the status of women in the social, political, economic and legal spheres. In its work to challenge the multiple levels of discrimination which women face both within their own community as women and within society at large (as Palestinian citizens and as women). WAV pursues change through a number of forum, from raising awareness activities, to wholesale policy change. Today WAV divides its work between direct service provision, social change activism, and advocacy at national level.
Their objectives are:
- To make substantive increases in the participation of Palestinian women in decision making and leadership positions (especially in the political parties and the local authorities), and across the public arena generally.
- To remove significant obstacles preventing Palestinian women (especially those with academic degrees) from participating in the workforce, while creating resources to improve their awareness and job skills.
- To intensify the feminist message across the Palestinian minority, especially among the youth (and, specifically, among young women).
- To continue to provide cross cutting assistance to women seeking protection from gender based violence.
WOV has more than 10 years of work experience in gender equality.
