Fundació Aroa (Aroa Foundation) was founded in 2003 with a clear goal: to uphold the human right to health, and to do this from a holistic and feminist approach. Since its inception, it has built up a multi-disciplinary team with specialists in medicine, psychology, social education, political science, sociology and pedagogy.
The foundation’s activities include prevention, direct support for people with psycho-social disorders, research and advocacy from local up to international level. It promotes 4 priority action areas with a total of 17 social action projects: health, women, children & adolescents and elderly.
The foundation’s ultimate goal is contributing to a fairer, more equal world in which everybody’s dignity and diversity are respected and valued.
The foundation has a clear priority toward the fight for human rights, gender equality and women's rights, with over 12 years’ experience in giving specialized therapeutic services to women victims of Gender based Violence (GBV) and their children, promoting awareness raising and prevention actions in the community and providing formal education frameworks, and professional trainings on gender equality topics, as well as conducting advocacy on both local and global levels.
The foundation is a member of the Women' Council of Barcelona and coordinator of its GBV Working Group. It is also member of the National Council of Women of Catalonia and part of its delegation to the United Nations CSW for 2 consecutive years. It's also part of the Experts Group of the 2030 Feminist Agenda and lately it has launched and promoted the Feminist Europe campaign (FEM EU).
