The Care of Children of Female Prisoners Association was established in 1990 to defend the rights of children of female prisoners and their mothers´. The association aims to promote the rights of women in Egypt, especially the female ´´debtor´´ prisoners who were imprisoned simply because they couldn´t pay back their debts because they are very poor. The association also aims at training and empowering these prisoners economically so they support their families once they are out of prison.
Through a coalition launched in 2017 in cooperation with organizations, associations and civil institutions under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Egypt, and with the support of businessmen, jurists and lawyers, the association seeks to activate the law to replace the penalties of imprisonment with civil penalties for women so they don’t have to separate from their families, and also to guarantee family stability.
The association has also established a project for the training and economic empowerment of women prisoners in the name of "Life Project".
