Mission and objectives

The International Civil Service (SCI) is an international movement that works for peace and social justice, as well as equal opportunities for all citizens. Founded in the 1982, SCI Catalonia represents one of the 40 branches which form the network of Service Civil International. SCI is mainly known for its international voluntary work camps, which more than 5.000 people from all over the world take part in every year. In addition, SCI organizes seminars and other formative activities in partnership with local associations exploring various themes such as: peace education, conflicts, north/south relations, gender equality, climate change etc. The tools that they use are the voluntary work camps, medium or long term international volunteering (LTV) seminars and awareness activities.

SCI Catalonia works in partnership with different local voluntary groups regarding different topics but mainly feminism, immigration and climate change and takes part in diverse social movements and campaigns.

Madam Elisabet Puigdollers is the coordinator of the volunteering projects at SCI but in her free time, she is also a feminist activist and work for gender equality through her contribution to the media and educational and political institutions through external consultancies.

Main activities related to gender equality and women's rights

SCI locally raises awareness within the population about gender inequalities in different spheres (media, politics etc.). For that purpose, it has a feminist local group of activists that organize campaigns and workshops at a regional level. In the Mediterranean region, they are establishing new partnerships so that they can create new work camps and seminars along the region always with a gender equality perspective and to grow solidarity between women in the region. Finally, SCI wants to focus on parity within their international organization and all partners and SCI branches by promoting protocols for gender equality within the volunteering projects.
