The Hillary Clinton Center for Women' s Empowerment at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (Morocco) has a contemporary focus combined with an awareness of historical forces that shape current gender discourses in North Africa.
It is a center for interdisciplinary scholarship on gender and women' s rights issues. The Center has a program of distinguished guest speakers, scholars-in-residence, conferences and campus activities involving undergraduate and graduate students. The Center aims to be at the forefront of gender studies scholarship in Morocco and promotes gender research and study throughout North Africa. Current research focus: Gender and Corruption, Gender and Underage Marriages, Domestic Violence, Islamic Feminisms, Gender and Law Reform, Gender Migration and Refugees, Masculinities in North Africa. The Center is developing an women' s empowerment network that assists rural women to enhance their income generating activities.
