Burcu Tüm notably had the opportunity to join the public life by the meeting of women members of an association who conducts research on people of Anatolia and used them as tools for political change.
Within this Association, they constituted in Istanbul, a group of women with whom they share readings, discussions questions and various activities. They have published seven editions of the newsletter in which they publish their research and reflect on social issues and gender; such as militarism, LGBT movements, sexism, etc.
In addition, Burcu Tüm works for two years on a blog in order to share experiences and public debates that affect the areas of sex and gender. The blog is called Mor Masa Ritüeli - the purple table's ritual ̶ and she works with four other women.
Burcu Tüm participated in the formation of “Femmes d'avenir en Méditerranée 2016”, organized by Science Po in April 2016. Furthermore, she started a Master as part of an urban study in sociology at the Istanbul University in September 2016. Burcu Tüm studies the experiences of refugee women during their journey from home to İstanbul as well as their lives away from home.
After many experiences on different type and scale projects in diverse offices since 2007, she founded Mahal Mimarlık with her partners in 2013. She continues her professional works on international projects in Mahal Architects, reorganized in 2016.
Burcu Tüm has between 5 to 10 years of specific experience working on gender equality at the Euro- Mediterranean level
