Mission and objectives

Burcu Tüm notably had the opportunity to join the public life by the meeting of women members of the AKA DER - Research Association about Anatolian Culture. AKA DER conducts research on people of Anatolia and used them as tools for political change.

Within this Association, they constituted in Istanbul, a group of women (Kadın Faaliyeti) with whom they share readings, discussions questions and various activities. They have published seven editions of the newsletter Kırık Oklava ̶ the rolling pin broke ̶ in which they publish their research and reflect on social issues and gender; such as militarism, LGBT movements, sexism, etc.

In addition, Burcu Tüm works for two years on a blog in order to share experiences and public debates that affect the areas of sex and gender. The blog is called Mor Masa Ritüeli - the purple table's ritual ̶ and she works with four other women.

Burcu Tüm participated in the formation of “Femmes d'avenir en Méditerranée 2016”, organized by Science Po in April 2016. Furthermore, she will start a Master as part of an urban study in sociology at the Istanbul University in September 2016. Burcu Tüm would like to study the experiences of refugee women during their journey from home to İstanbul as well as their lives away from home.

Burcu Tüm has between 5 to 10 years of specific experience working on gender equality at the Euro- Mediterranean level.
