The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), in collaboration with the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM), are launching the collage art contest "Collaging a Gender-Equal Future: Tailoring the Transformations of the Euro-Mediterranean Space".
Through the artistic language of collage, participants are invited to shed light on the complexities of gender equality in our present and/or to imagine alternative scenarios and strategies to overcome the hardships accentuated by the pandemic and towards a gender-equal future.
In 2020 in the whole world, including the Euro-Mediterranean region, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have not been the same for everyone. Gender disparities have widened: gender roles have become more embedded, the hardships of women workers in charge of unpaid care work and family duties have risen, and difficulties have increased for the most vulnerable women and girls. Furthermore, women have been in the front line of the pandemic, as they continue to be more present in those sectors most exposed to the virus. Gender-based violence has also ramified, intersected with the effects that the COVID-19 has caused in multiple sectors of the Euro-Mediterranean societies. At the same time, experts and civil society actors highlight that the pandemic can be perceived as a window of opportunity to build a safer and more egalitarian world, to favour societies in which gender equality is a cross-sectional element, to make the world better hear women’s and girls’ voices.
Everyone who is passionate about art (amateur or professional), over the age of 18, and a citizen of a Euro-Mediterranean country (see the full list of countries in the file attached).
