Participate in Creative Tunisia’s new call for proposals!

The project Creative Tunisia,part of the Tounes Wijhetouna program, funded by the European Union with a financial contribution from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), supports the competitiveness of the handicraft and design sector to ensure a rise in product quality and access to national and international markets. The aim of the project is to support seven selected clusters and also to provide technical assistance to support structures, other economic realities and associations in the field of crafts and design and to set up service centres to improve the competitiveness of the sector throughout the country. Three calls for proposals will be organized over the period 2020-2024 to fully support some fifteen formal associations working in the field of crafts and design. This call is the first in the series.

The objectives of the call for proposals

This call will select 5 projects that meet at least one of the following objectives:

  • To preserve and enhance traditional Tunisian know-how through innovative product development strategies.
  • To support craftsmen in the professionalisation of the craft through technical training or better access to technology
  • To support market access efforts of the Tunisian handicrafts and design sector
  • To support the development of design skills and collaboration between designers and craftspeople
  • To promote the Tunisian handicraft heritage through national and international campaigns of valorization
  • To develop support services for the craft and design sectors
  • To support the development of economic opportunities (jobs created, increase in income or living conditions) for vulnerable populations through artisanal activity.
  • To promote entrepreneurship in the crafts and design sector

Successful projects will be eligible for funding ranging from €20,000 to €30,000

Who can participate?

Eligible associations are those that are created and established in Tunisia with at least 2 years of existence as of 01 June 2020. Their main activity must concern crafts, design or support to social entrepreneurship or have already successfully implemented at least one project meeting one of the specific objectives of this call. These associations must have an annual budget of at least 30,000 TND over one of the last three years (2017 or 2018 or 2019). Only projects dealing with crafts (excluding food products), product design and fashion are eligible under this call.
