The association for Middle East women’s studies (AMEWS) launched a call for abstracts for the international conference ‘’Women and Gender Studies in the Middle East’’ which will be organized in Beirut, Lebanon, in the second week of March 2021, in partnership with the American University of Beirut and the Lebanese American University.
At this stage, AMEWS calls for abstracts’ submissions (250 words) from a broad range of topics on gender and women’s studies in the social sciences and humanities: politics, economics, history, sexualities, culture, arts, digital humanities... The deadline for abstracts’ submission is the 30th of October 2019.
The conference aims to engage with scholars from multiple locations in and outside the region, on the cutting-edge topics propelling research on gender and women’s studies in the Middle East and with populations in the diaspora.
The AMEWS will fund the travel, accommodation and food allowance for the majority of the participants, but priority will be given to participants living in the Middle East.
AMEWS is specialized in women and gender studies in the context of the Middle East / North Africa and beyond, including transnational and diasporic communities in Europe as well as North and South America.

This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
