The Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM), together with the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), are launching the art contest "Drawing 4 Equality: Challenging gender roles on both sides of the Mediterranean", in an effort to deconstruct the specific norms and behaviours that women and men are expected to play in society.
For instance, how many times are women and girls expected to act, behave and dress in a certain way? How many times have men refrained from doing something because it’s not worthy of a "man"?
We invite you to be creative and ingenious and share, through your drawings, illustrations, paintings and/or graphic designs, your views and thoughts about gender roles. Join us in breaking these social norms!
Everyone who is passionate about art (amateur or professional), over the age of 18, and a citizen of a Euro-Mediterranean country (see the full list of countries in the file attached).
Theme of your illustration/artwork/drawing must be: "Challenging gender roles on both sides of the Mediterranean". It must be clear that the purpose of your work is to deconstruct a gender role or a stereotyped behaviour!
Work can be realised in any format and medium: comic, postcard, pencil drawing, graphic design… You can use comedy, metaphors, lettering... Be imaginative and explore all possibilities!
Submit your illustration/artwork/drawing along with a title and a brief description by email to email@example.com (read all the specifications in the file attached).
An evaluation committee will select 20 finalists (the most creative and self-explanatory applications) and 3 final winners among them.
The 20 finalist entries will be promoted internationally and displayed in different exhibition venues.
The 3 final winners will be invited to a meeting/workshop related to art and feminism in Barcelona (travel expenses, visa, accommodation and meals will be covered) and awarded an iPad.
Read the full details regarding the benefits for the finalists and winners in the file attached!
