In the context of its social role to advance the conditions of Egyptian women and defend the African and Arab women’s rights, the Association of the Egyptian Female Lawyers in partnership with Equality Now (Kenya) and in cooperation with SOAWR has worked towards the establishment of the network of women organizations in Egypt to support MAPUTO Protocol.
AEFL also calls African governments to approve and ratify the protocol which is considered one of the most comprehensive international treaties in regard to women’s and girls’ rights. The chairperson of AEFL, Ms. Rabha Fathy, has declared that during the last quarter of 2021 AEFL will work for the creation of a network of 10 Arab and Egyptian women organizations to support MAPUTO Protocol which defends African women’s rights.
Furthermore, the network will work to emphasize the effectiveness of women organizations role in defending women’s issues in a more comprehensive way at African level, to raise awareness of CSOs regarding the objectives and principles tackled by the Protocol and to mobilize social efforts and media so that the Egyptian government would ratify the MAPUTO Protocol.
