Gender-based violence against women and girls is an assault on their dignity and discrimination against them. It is the result of the different forms of inequality that exist. It is one of the most widespread and persistent human rights violations in the world today. However, most of this violence goes unreported because of the impunity, silence and fear of being the object of scandal and shame that surrounds this phenomenon and that weighs on the victims and survivors.
