An internationally selected jury composed of eminent figures from the art and photography community shortlisted five candidates and one laureate, as well as the winners of the Sustainable Award, the Canon Discovery Award and the IWPA Special Mention. The winning projects portray an array of subjects that, amongst others, put the emphasis on the body and on other pressing topics, such as sexual harassment. The images also take us to several geographical contexts, including the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The finalists were chosen from among 40 pre-selected candidates from a total of 600 women photographers from 70 countries and 6 continents. Such a substantial number of participants from so many countries allow us to discover inedited stories and talents, underlining the exceptional success and relevance of the IWPA Award worldwide.
The International Women in Photo Association promotes women photographers by highlighting and exposing their practices and talents to an international audience. Its mission is to encourage and support women photographers on the path of reaffirming their personal voice and practice. Even if due to the current pandemic, this year, the IWPA international exhibition calendar has been disrupted as many countries and locations have closed their gallery space, the Association is working on alternative options to make sure the fantastic selection of IWPA 2020 will be seen and promoted as much as possible.
