This month, the Sisterhood IS Global Institute (SIGI) in Jordan organized a seminar titled “Youth Initiatives and Their Role in Supporting Women’s Issues” and hosted the “Know your limits” initiative team to showcase their experience in combating violence against women and girls.
“Know your limits” is an initiative launched by the East and West Center within the ‘’Decent Work Academy’’ project that aims to raise community awareness about sexual harassment in the workplace and force harassers to change their abusive behavior.
The initiative also seeks to push for legislation to ensure deterrent penalties for harassers.
A 2010 study by the Hashemite University team on “Factors that make up gender roles in Jordan”, which included sexual harassment in the workplace, showed that 14% of working women in Jordan were subjected to verbal sexual harassment in their workplace, and 0.7% were subjected to sexual harassment. 8% of working women were subjected to verbal violence, compared to 2.3% subjected to intimidation and psychological threat from the employer.
