Symbolic action to decriminalize the right to abortion in Morocco

M.A.L.I. Mouvement Alternatif pour les Libertés Individuelles (Alternative Movement for Individual Liberties) organized an action on April 24 in Rabat for the decriminalization of the right to abortion in Morocco.

Accompanied by the team of the program Clit Revolution a feminist documentary web-series (France), the action aimed at underlining that the legislation which criminalizes the use of abortion leads to serious violations of women’s rights.

In Morocco, abortion is still prohibited, except in cases where the health of the woman is in danger. Despite the submission of a bill to the House of Representatives in June 2016 to expand the cases of authorization of the voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion), the law has still not passed.

The bill provides for the authorization of abortion when the pregnancy is a danger to the mother’s life or her health, when the pregnancy is generated by rape or incest, when the mother has a mental illness, or when the foetus has serious genetic diseases or malformations that cannot be treated at the time of diagnosis.

More information on this action is available in the links below.
