Workshop in the West Bank to promote women's participation in public life

A workshop on "Enhancing Women’s Participation in Public Life and Decision-making" was organized by Hiwar Center for youth and women’s empowerment on 19 December 2018 at the vocational training center of the village Beit Ur al-Tahta near Ramallah in the West Bank.

18 women participated in this workshop which is part of the "Partners in Destiny" initiative, which deals with women’s political participation and marginalization in decision-making. The initiative is also part of the project "Strengthening Cooperation between Palestinian Community Organizations for Strengthening the Palestinian State" in partnership with Pal Think for Strategic Studies.

The Director of Hiwar Centre, Iman Abdulrahman, facilitated this session by addressing the importance of women’s participation in the elections and the obstacles that impede women’s access to leadership and decision-making positions, as well as the quota system, electoral programs and other issues related to political participation.

The workshop also shed light on several the experience of several Palestinian female politicians and leaders who are considered role models. The workshop also included a dialogue with the Family Planning Association through social media to discuss the reality of women and their problems in Gaza and the West Bank.
