The "8th Meeting of the Gender Diversity and Governance around the Mediterranean Network" was held from the 24th to the 26th of October, 2018 in Beirut (Lebanon). The event was organized by the Basil Fuleihan Institute in collaboration with the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), Expertise France and the "Institut français" (French Institute) of Lebanon. It aimed to make an assessment of 4 years of the Gender Diversity and Governance Network and discuss about the management of women and the skills of women leaders in the public sphere.
The meeting, which was attended by Ms. Nathalie Pilhes -one of the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM)’s board members-, recognized the network as a successful model for dialogue and exchange on issues of diversity and governance, and its members as actors of change. Presentations of results of the regional and national networks were made, senior Civil Servants shared their experiences, skills and competencies, and a workshop on “Actions for leveraging women leadership” was organized in collaboration with the French National School of administration (ENA).
The event concluded with a set of observations to take into account in the future, such as discussing public policies themes at regional and national levels, targeting a larger audience in regional workshops, encouraging peer exchange, including more members from the South into the Network, and implementing more effective communication tools.
