The Self-Development, Interchange and Solidarity Movement (M.A.I.S.) launched its new project ‘’ AL TA’MARBOUTA ‘’ which aims at reducing rural poverty of small producers and the most vulnerable groups such as unemployed women and youth, through the enhancement and improvement of the agricultural sector in Faiyum Governorate (Egypt).
The project will particularly target women especially in rural areas where problems like early marriage or illiteracy, domestic violence and patriarchal repression and control are dominant.
The main idea is to empower women by guaranteeing equal access to resources, and improving their conditions in the community, especially, in the agricultural sector of whose labour force majority are women. The project will also provide training sessions to many women.
Besides playing an important role in poultry breeding and farming, women in Egypt are entirely responsible for managing the household and child care.
Besides facilitating women’s access to resources, AL TA’MARBOUTA project will also provide a Playroom where children can learn by playing while their mothers attend the training courses.
The project is funded by Otto per Mille Valdese.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
