On April 24th 2018, Syrian Women´s Network (SWN) organized a two days’ workshop on women in international law, in Gaziantep (Turkey). The workshop is part of an agreement between SWN and the Syrian Legal Development Programme to conduct a series of trainings throughout 2018.
The workshop included an introduction to international law, its sources and bodies, as well as an introduction to international humanitarian law and different resolutions on the protection of civilians, women and children in particular during armed conflicts, as well as the International Criminal Court, the accountability for violations of the laws of armed conflict, the importance of protecting and neutralizing civilians during armed conflicts, and the obligations of warring States and parties during armed conflicts.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
