The Association of Women in Green Economy (AFEV) organized in Algiers -with the support of the Dutch Embassy- a forum on women’s leadership and the success stories of women leaders in Algeria who were able to overcome many obstacles and succeed on their professional journey. During this forum Ms. Karima Bergheul, the president of the AFEV, presented the diagnosis on the challenges and obstacles faced by women when creating their own enterprise. This meeting is a continuation of the field project that the association leads in partnership with the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM), in the framework of the "Capacity building of gender equality actors" project funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and which aims at the sensitization of 30 women from the Bouzareah commune to entrepreneurship. This project tackles the problem of the constraints faced by women upon starting their business, and wants to contribute to the economic integration of these women by strengthening their capacities, leadership and TIC skills. These constraints include social pressure and traditional stereotypes of women entrepreneurs, access to finance and lack of family support.
