A campaign by NADRF to highlight the roles of local female leaders in Egypt

As part of its mission to highlight the roles of female leaders or individuals who make positive change in their communities, both at the political and social levels, the National Association for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms has recently launched the campaign ‘’ They are the hope for tomorrow’’ which consisted in conducting a public vote on ‘’March 2018 women of the year’’. The campaign ended by the election of Um El Ezz Brik from Mersa Matruh Governorate as ‘’Woman of the Year’’.

Between 1 and 28 February 2018, the public had the chance to vote for its favorite female public figure among 10 candidates through the website of NADRF where more than 10,000 people from different governorates participated. This heavy participation in the voting process reflected the public support for women´s engagement and contribution to public life.

The results of the first four most voted female leaders were as follows:

  1. Um El-Ezz Brik (Governor of Marsa Matruh) with 2036 votes
  2. Maria Naim (Minya governorate) with 1980 votes
  3. Hanan Abdel Nabi (Port Said governorate) with 1288 votes
  4. Rabab Abdul Alim (Dakahlia governorate) with 914 votes
