Global Citizenship Education Fund: citizenship education with a long-term vision

Values such as non-violence and equality can be improved thanks to a formative offer that enables teachers and students to face to the cultural challenges of our societies.

For that reason, IDEABORN is working from Barcelona to sustain, with a long- term vision, its citizenship education activities in the Euro-Mediterranean region through the creation of a new foundation - the Global Citizenship Education Fund.

Over the past three years, IDEABORN has been working on the implementation of its Forming Responsible Citizens (FRC) project, which is a programme focused on civic education and equality values in four Mediterranean countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia and Morocco.

The project’s activities aim to prevent juvenile violence and violence against girls and women, starting with education, framing the school as a key tool for encouraging dialogue, connections and tolerance. Those actions can generate a long-term impact if they are sustained over time.

From February, we will be accepting voluntary donations, as well as evaluating the involvement of new schools in Tunisia and Morocco, and at the end of 2018 in Lebanon and Jordan. We will also be exploring new partnerships for the implementation of citizenship education programs aligned to FRC values and to implement the graduate diploma in participatory education in other Mediterranean countries.

The FRC project is labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean and financed by the Ministry of Foreign affairs of the Kingdom of Norway and the Principality of Monaco. Starting from 2018 it is sustained by the new foundation GCEF.
