Bedouin women trained to revive Jordanian traditional crafts and promote it among tourists

With the support of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Disi Women Cooperative is currently organizing a series of vocational and artisan trainings targeting women of Wadi Rum (the valley of the Moon) with the aim of qualifying them to promote tourism in their valley which is the top tourist destination in Jordan.

While most of these trainings focus on vocational, artisanal and traditional crafts, such as the trimming of the Shmag, Jordan’s traditional and symbolic men head cover, sewing and production lines; other trainings are dedicated to teaching Bedouin women English language to directly communicate with tourists in order to promote their products.

The ultimate objective of these trainings is to empower local women with sustainable livelihood.
