The Federation of women’s rights leagues of Marrakech (FLDF Marrakech in French) has started a project under the pilot mobilization action of gender equality actors which it conducted as the leader of the local cluster of gender equality actors© (Cycle 1). FLDF conducted the pilot action in the Marrakech-Safi area and made an initial diagnosis of the situation on forms of violence against women.
The figures provided by the Ministry of Justice and Freedoms, and especially those reported by the civil society organizations who protect women’s human rights show that child marriage has risen to the level of social phenomenon in the region. Meetings with local and national authorities such as the Regional Council and the National Council for Human Rights, associations, various media and the Research Group on Women's Studies at the University Cadi Ayyad of Marrakech have been involved in the pilot action.
To carry on with this work, a project will be developed in the coming months in order to get more detailed data that can raise awareness and mobilize policy makers on the issue of violence against women, particularly child marriage. Through research, education and information activities in schools and villages, the project aims to reach the general public but also local stakeholders and policy makers to take measures and action plans to reduce child marriage and discrimination against girls.
This project follows the mission of the Foundation to encourage women’s empowerment. It is one of the fieldwork projects developed within the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacity of the actors working for equality" of the project “Women for the future in the Mediterranean”, funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI) and the project "Developing Women Empowerment" labeled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
