Fighting against violence based on gender in the Marrakech- Safi region

The Fédération de la Ligue Démocratique des Droits des Femmes (FLDDF) - Marrakech, coordinator of the Femmes Solidaires network, who brought together associations of women's rights, human rights, development, youth and women's cooperatives, led a mobilization action of equality actors in the region of Marrakech - Safi in 2015.

Through 22 preparatory meetings, the FLDDF - Marrakech gathered 30 actors who were not necessarily used to work together in order to address gender-based violence, particularly underage marriage. The review of the situation on violence, which was carried out in parallel by the FLDDF - Marrakech, concluded that child marriage is a scourge with very serious consequences for women in the region.

The results of the situation’s review were presented on 19 December, 2015 in front of mobilized equality actors during the pilot action, namely associations, the University CADI AYAD, the National Council for Human Rights - CNDH, the Social Development Agency - ADS, the Regional Council of Marrakech - Safi, local authorities, the media and enterprises. The constitution of this equality actors’ cluster is innovative because it promotes partnerships between different categories of stakeholders, including actors in the field and those actives at academic and university level, and, therefore, it helps to improve public policies.

This action is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacity of equality actors”, of the project “Women for the future in the Mediterranean” funded by  the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and the project “Developing Women Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
