The dialogue workshop held in Oran, on 28th November, 2015, continued the discussion which was started on 14th and 19th November on the overall situation of women victims of violence. Photographs of violence scene were projected and the efforts of local associations, such as FARD and AFEPEC to provide psychological and legal assistance to victims were valued. However, it was noted that the resources allocated are inadequate and there is no specific management structure for women victims of violence.

The 60 participants (namely, representatives of various organizations of civil society and media) have agreed to the need to establish a reception and accommodation centre for victims of violence in Oran. Training media on the treatment of violence is also a priority.

This workshop is part of the pilot action to mobilize local actors in Algeria in 2015 conducted by the Association nationale Femmes en communication (FEC) within the framework of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of actors working for gender equality", of the project Women for the future in the Mediterranean, funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the project “Developing Women’s Empowerment”, labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean. A dissemination workshop on 5th December, 2015 will present and discuss the results of previous workshops.
