The event, organized by the Forum Femmes Méditerranée, has gathered more than 50 people at the Cité des Associations. They have discussed the three axes analysed in the report: the participation of women in economic life, participation in political life and violence against women.
The presentation of the First monitoring report was led by 7 experts on gender issues in the Mediterranean region: Esther Fouchier and Martine Lévy, from the Forum Femmes Méditerranée (France), Fouzia Assouli, from the Fédération de la Ligue Démocratique des Droits des Femmes (Morocco), Maria- Àngels Roque from the European Institute of the Mediterranean (Spain), Mariam Abdo from the Euro-Mediterranean Network against Trafficking in Women (Lebanon), Ana Sofia Fernandes from the Portuguese Platform for Women's Rights (Portugal) and Soukeina Bouraoui from the Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (Tunisia).
The presentation coincided with the 4th World March of Women, a global action network, launched after the Global Conference in Beijing, which was focused on the globalization of solidarity, women's leadership and the strength of alliances among women and between social movements. In this context, about 300 women marched to denounce extremisms and the violence against women.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
