Barcelona, 15 and 16 December 2014
In 2014, the Euro-Mediterranean Women's Foundation asked several women experts on equality from different generations and sectors (researchers and activists of civil society organisations) to examine the progress in terms of gender equality, following the 3rd Ministerial Conference of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society, contributions that will feed the first qualitative monitoring report of the Foundation.
The work of these women experts focuses on 12 countries ─ Algeria, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia and Turkey ─ and on three large thematic fields: women's participation in economic, professional and social life, women's participation in political life, and violence against women.
After several weeks of work, the experts were invited to Barcelona to present their summaries and prepare the first monitoring report of the Foundation with a view to the future Conference to be held by the UfM in May 2015. The seminar enabled them to report the obstacles, opportunities and recommendations identified and assess the common and cross-cutting elements.
