Launch of the project Strengthening the capacities of equality actors

In December 2014, the Foundation began this project, of an estimated length of three years, which mainly concerns southern Mediterranean countries, namely Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.

It is led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), in partnership with the Center of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR), the French state, the Fédération de la Ligue Démocratique des Droits des Femmes (FLDDF), the Forum Femmes Méditerranée (FFM) and the Réseau universitaire et scientifique euro-méditerranéen sur le genre et les femmes (RUSEMEG), in keeping with the mission of the Euro-Mediterranean Women's Foundation. The project is funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI) in the framework of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of actors working for gender equality", of the project Women for the future in the Mediterranean, funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the project “Developing Women’s Empowerment”, labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.

The project has three objectives: encourage networking and partnerships between the equality actors on a local, national and Euro-Mediterranean scale; mobilise the equality actors at a local level to improve the monitoring of public policies concerning women and gender equality; and develop access to and knowledge of equality, women and gender.

In order to achieve these objectives, a series of activities are annually programmed, such as the constitution of local clusters and the regional dialogue with them, local meetings to share experiences and monitoring gender equality policies, holding travelling research seminars on gender and information sessions, invigoration of the equality actors network through the provision of information and tools, and holding forums to present the outcomes of the equality actors'mobilisation.
