This conference, the first international meeting organised by RUSEMEG, has launched the pilot project of a Euro-Mediterranean University Network on Gender and Women. This network aims to be the knowledge division of the Euro-Mediterranean project “Developing Women’s Empowerment”, labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean and establishing the basis for the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation announced on the occasion of the Ministerial Summit of the Union for the Mediterranean.

The conference was preceded by the meeting of the RUSEMEG Board, which enabled expansion of the initial board resulting from the constituent assembly held on 7 December 2012, to four other members, from universities in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Spain.

Held in one day, the conference brought together nine university women from the Euro-Mediterranean area committed to research on gender and equality between women and men as well as numerous representatives of associations or women engaged in the fight for equality.
