Gaza - Community Media and Development Center (CDMC) - May 2023
The Community Media and Development Center (CDMC) organized an interactive meeting, on Saturday, May 17, 2023, at the headquarters of Al-Aqsa University in Khan Yunis with about 100 female academics, members of the Palestinian Academics Authority (PAC) and young men and women ambassadors of women’s rights who were empowered during Previous and current years.
The interactive day aimed to enhance acquaintance and networking between young people and academics, and to provide a space for effective discussion and exchange of experiences and expertise related to strengthening efforts to combat discrimination and gender-based violence against women.
Andalib Adwan, Director of the Community Media and Development Center (CDMC), opened the interactive day, welcoming the participants, saying: “During the last five years, we have worked in parallel with students, universities and academies, seeking to support and advocate for women’s rights in academic institutions with the effective involvement of all relevant parties.” .
Adwan added: “The Community Media and Development Center (CDMC) established the Palestinian Female Academics Authority (PAC) three years ago to defend the rights of female academics and represent their issues, in addition to working on developing the capabilities of dozens of students from the faculties of media and law with the aim of enhancing their role in the process of improving and spreading awareness about human rights and advocating for women in academic institutions and society."
The interactive day constituted a non-stereotypical space to enhance cooperation, understanding and dialogue between young men and women ambassadors of women’s rights and academics, as it included several discussions on the rights and reality of women in academic institutions, and the role of the Palestinian Women Academics Association (PAC) in improving this reality as well as enhancing youth participation in order to achieve that.
Iman Zorob, the project coordinator at the Community Media and Development Center (CDMC), indicated that the interactive day came as part of the activities of the project “Encouraging Interventions to Promote Women’s Rights in the Gaza Strip,” which is being implemented by (CDMC) for the third year in a row in partnership with the German Heinrich Böll Foundation.
