From 12- 26 June 2023, Biblioteca Central de Santa Coloma de Gramenet hosts the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM)’s photo exhibition "Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" ("Women breaking barriers. Transforming Mediterranean cities"). This activity is organised by the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet with the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Deputació de Barcelona) in the framework of the initiative "Dones que Transformen".
The last stop of the traveling exhibition was at the City Counsel of Calella. Born from the photography contest "Powerful women: Breaking stereotypes in the Euro-Mediterranean region", launched by the Foundation in November 2017 on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the exhibition is a great opportunity to reflect on the fight for gender equality which unfolds in different contexts of the Euro-Mediterranean region.
It showcases the photographs of the 10 finalists of the competition and tells the stories of hope and personal growth of women from Algeria, Belgium, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Palestine and Turkey. Each image is accompanied by a text, which helps us to better grasp the stories of the inspiring women in the pictures. “Dones trencant barreres” brings us closer to brave women who have broken gender stereotypes in their communities and have hence helped to bring change to their surroundings.
For further information on the whereabouts of the exhibition, we will inform you shortly.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
