22.05.2023 / Created by (EMWF)

From 16-30 May 2023, Plaça de l’Ajuntament, 31 hosts the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation (FFEM)’s photo exhibition "Dones trencant barreres. Transformant les ciutats mediterrànies" ("Women breaking barriers. Transforming Mediterranean cities"). This activity is organised by the City Council of Calella with the support of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Deputació de Barcelona) in the framework of the initiative "Dones que Transformen".

The last stop of the traveling exhibition was at the City Counsel of Sant Adrià de Besòs. Born from the photography contest "Powerful women: Breaking stereotypes in the Euro-Mediterranean region", launched by the Foundation in November 2017 on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the exhibition is a great opportunity to reflect on the fight for gender equality which unfolds in different contexts of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

It showcases the photographs of the 10 finalists of the competition and tells the stories of hope and personal growth of women from Algeria, Belgium, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, Palestine and Turkey. Each image is accompanied by a text, which helps us to better grasp the stories of the inspiring women in the pictures. “Dones trencant barreres” brings us closer to brave women who have broken gender stereotypes in their communities and have hence helped to bring change to their surroundings.

The next exhibition will be hosted in Sant Quirze de Besora. For further information on the whereabouts of the exhibition, we will inform you shortly.
