On 26 and 27 October 2022, the High Level Conference on Women for the Mediterranean organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) took place in Madrid. Ministers from UfM member states, UfM co-presidencies (EU and Jordan) and representatives of national, regional and international stakeholders from the public and private sectors are expected to join this high-level event.
Before the conference takes place on the 27th, the Ministers responsible for women’s affairs and gender equality from the 42 member states met the day before as part of the 5th (UfM) Ministerial Conference on the theme of women’s empowerment in society.
Senén Florensa Palau, Executive President of European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), took part in the Roundtable "Gender Equality and Climate Change" which also included representatives of CIHEAM, the OECD and the Mobility Council of Milan. Also present was Maria-Àngels Roque, Member of the Executive Committee of the Euro-Mediterranean Women’s Foundation and Director of the Department of Mediterranean Cultures, Gender and Civil Society at the IEMed. Together with three others, she discussed gender equality in the media context, critically questioning the role of the media industry in creating gender values and the misrepresentation of women in media content. In this context, we invite you to check out IEMed’s latest issue 34 of Quaderns de la Mediterrània entitled “Mediterranean Women Breaking Barriers”, which is the third monitoring report IEMed devoted to reflecting on what should be considered in this 5th Ministerial Conference.
