The CMC concluded a tour of field visits to 10 civil and women’s organizations from all governorates of the Gaza Strip, with the participation of members of the Preparatory Committee for the Palestinian Women Academics Authority (PAC), as part of the activities of the second phase of the project “Promoting a culture of respect for women’s rights in academic institutions – respect them” implemented by CMC in partnership with the German Heinrich Böll Foundation.

Andalib Adwan, Director of the CMC, said that the "I Respect Her"-project aims to promote a culture of respect for women’s rights and equality in academic institutions in the Gaza Strip, by raising university students’ and academics’ awareness of women’s rights, empowering female academics, and institutionalizing the PAC, which was established by CMC more than two years ago. In an attempt to create an independent feminist framework that includes female academics to defend the rights of female academics, represent their issues, and provide them with specialized services in various fields.

Adwan added: “The CMC organized field trips with the participation of members of the Preparatory Committee for the PAC, with the aim of introducing the institutions to the PAC, the idea and stages of its establishment, its goals, and its future plan, in addition to introducing the academies to the mechanism of work of the institutions, and reviewing their programs and categories. And the services it provides to them, and discussing ways to enhance cooperation and networking in a way that supports and empowers academic women, in addition to exchanging experiences and skills and facilitating communication between institutions and academies.

The field trip included visits to 10 civil rights and women’s organizations from all governorates of the Gaza Strip, where the tours began with a visit to the Center for Research, Legal Consultation and Protection for Women, and the Center for Women’s Affairs, and continued to the Coalition for Integrity and Accountability - AMAN, the Independent Commission for Human Rights, in addition to the Haid Abd Association Al-Shafi Health and Community Center, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, Aisha Association for the Protection of Women and Children, all the way to Al-Mizan Center for Human Rights, Wefaq Association for Women and Child Care, and finally the Culture and Free Thought Association and its affiliated centers.

The visits were welcomed by the directors of civil society institutions, and they expressed their appreciation to the CMC for its continuous efforts in promoting the idea of ​​the PAC, and they affirmed their full readiness to support the Preparatory Committee for the PAC, in order to develop its work and ensure its continuity, in addition to strengthening communication and networking between their institutions and academic women in general, and specifically those affiliated with the PAC.

In a related context, the members of the Preparatory Committee for the Palestinian Women Academics Authority (PAC) expressed their happiness and the benefit they have from the field trips to NGOs, as it provided them with a space for discussion to exchange knowledge and experience, and for dialogue on ways to develop work in the PAC in cooperation with the community and women’s institutions experienced in civil work.

In parallel, CMC continues to implement a series of discussion sessions in universities on women’s rights in academic institutions, and holds a number of awareness workshops on women’s rights in Palestinian laws in cooperation with the universities of the Gaza Strip.

It is worth noting that the CMC is a non-governmental organization operating in the Gaza Strip since 2007. It seeks to develop the role of the media in dealing with societal issues, and to promote the values ​​of democracy, equality and a culture of human rights, with a focus on women and youth issues and highlighting them through various media means within the approach based on human rights.
