Gaza - Community Media Center - June 2022
The Community Media Center participated in the cross-border strike with the institutions of the Amal Alliance to Combat Violence against Women, where they carried out a protest and closed its office, denouncing the silence of official institutions on the phenomenon of violence and killing of women in Palestine and the Arab world, and in rejection of all forms of violence against Palestinian and Arab women, and demanding that they provide protection for women subjected to violence and its survivors.
For her part, Nightingale Adwan, director of the Community Media Center, explained, “today we and all feminist and human rights NGOs in the Gaza Strip stood at the Community Media Center to denounce and denounce the escalating phenomenon of murder against women practiced in Palestine and the Arab region.
“My colleagues at the Community Media Center are standing in protest against the increasing violence against women, and we are demanding the adoption of the law on family protection from violence so that we eliminate the roots of violence completely,” said Iman Zarub, project coordinator at CMC.
In a related context, Fadwa Abdullah, Project Coordinator, noted that the high number of victims of murders against women in the Arab region reflects a state of decline at the political, cultural and social levels, especially cultural, which reflects the basic incubator for women. “Therefore, we demand that there be serious positions at the societal, cultural and political levels to support women and embrace them within their communities,” she added.
It is noteworthy that the Community Media Center (CMC) is a non-governmental organization that has been working in the Gaza Strip since 2007, seeking to develop the role of the media in addressing societal issues, promoting the values of democracy, equality and the culture of human rights, focusing on women’s and youth issues and highlighting them through various media within a human rights-based approach.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
