Within the framework of its project “Promoting Diversity and Equality”, co-funded by the governments of Spain and Portugal, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe revisited its methods to integrate an intersectional approach to gender equality as an essential element to effectively address the needs and priorities of women who are too often forgotten in national and global policymaking and their implementation.
From March 8th 2022, they disseminated their campaign "Intersectionality Transforms our Realities”, in which the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe promotes to revisit and reconceptualise the way we think about gender equality and incorporate an intersectionality lens in our analysis of dominant discourses and ideologies that perpetuate inequalities. The intersectional approach can be used by anyone who wishes to contribute to the valorisation of diversity and the promotion of social justice for all.
The “Intersectionality Transforms Our Realities” campaign, which falls within the tenth year of the Women Empowerment Programme, aims to raise public awareness about intersectional discrimination and provide insights and tools for professionals and activists to put intersectional inclusion into practice in their work.
The campaign compiles the recommendations and the work of intersectionality and communication experts from and for the European, Middle Eastern, and African regions. It is an invitation to explore our world through another perspective, advancing towards equality, diversity, and inclusion.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
