The Women Graduates Society in the Gaza Strip hosted the Minister of Culture, His Excellency Dr. Atef Abu Seif, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Press House, Mr. Bilal Jadallah. They were received by the Director-General of the Alumni Association, Ms. Wedad Al-Sourani, and a number of female graduates, in a meeting on “The Role of Women in the Palestinian Cultural Scene.”
Ms. Wedad opened the meeting, welcoming the attendees and praising the roles of Palestinian women in all sectors, including the cultural sector, as they have a presence in various types of cultural and artistic creativity, stressing the complementary role between men and women in this field to consolidate the cultural heritage, and called for the adoption of cultural ideas that help the Palestinian women to see the light of their ideas.
His Excellency Minister Abu Seif spoke about the importance of women’s participation in reviving the cultural heritage and mentioned several scenes of women’s contributions to strengthening the Palestinian scene. He also mentioned that protecting and promoting the Palestinian narrative is the first priority of the Palestinian cultural project, and that the Palestinian government places this task at the heart of its cultural vision. He stressed the importance of empowering women in the cultural sector and rehabilitating them to enhance the role of women in protecting Palestinian heritage and identity.
This platform is part of the Axis 1 "Strengthening the capacities of equality actors" of the Priority Solidarity Fund "Women for the future in the Mediterranean" funded by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and led by the European Institute of the Mediterranean, in the framework of the project “Developing Women's Empowerment” labelled by the Union for the Mediterranean.
